Of headphones and traipsing across town

September 29, 2007 at 8:47 pm (Life; muse with me., Music)

Today was the first day out with Student Councillors after a very very long time. The first time we went out without even mentioning promos. The first time we went out to do something to do with music.

The journey began at school. Attempting to study in school, I decided to go out for lunch with a few of the councillors. Hsuan Te, Jomaine and Gabriel. Together we make the intial foursome who went to Jack’s Place to have a good great lunch! Ate NZ Sirloin Steak broiled with red wine for S$9.50. Fabulous stuff.

So we met Shane and headed down to Gramophone to shop for Shane’s CDs. Totaled up to probably around 60 bucks?

Then we went straight to City Hall. Gallivating across streets and treating like the whole world was ours, we went to Adelphi. Well, they all say this place is the place to go if you’re looking for audiophile stuff. Or is it audiophilic? :]

Anyways, I managed to skim through two models of the brand of headphones. Loved the AKG K81 DJ headphones! So I bought it at S$143 bucks. Good deal, considering (after checking it out on the internet) it was sold at 70 USD.

Managed to go to Gramophone at Capitol Centre and Jom managed to get her Hard-fi CD! Yay!

Then we went over to Swee Lee where we checked out some drum and guitar stuff. I was so tempted to buy a tuner (what a selection) and a pair of rutes! But no, I resisted. Take that, Shane. :]

Hsuan Te bought a guitar grip thingy and some picks, and I don’t know what Shane bought but yeah we had lots of fun there. I think we saw Ms Yang (Maths Lecturer) with her boyfriend at Bras Basah Shopping Centre. A tad unrecognisable but I was quite sure it was her save for the retro spectacles.

Oh well, the day is over. Back to Chinese. What the heck.

Muse – “Feeling Good”

September 11, 2007 at 10:45 pm (Music)

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Reeds drifting on by
You know how I feel
Its a new dawn it’s a new day its a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom in the trees
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn its a new day it’s a new life for me
And I’m feeling good

Dragonflies all out in the sun
You know what I mean, don’t you know
Butterflies are all having fun
You know what I mean
Sleep in peace
When the day is done
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Smell of the pine
You know how I feel
Yeah freedom is mine
And you know how I feel
Its a new dawn its a new day its a new life for me
Butterflieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

Ooooh, freeier than you..
Ooooh, feeling good..

The Big Shopping Spree

September 9, 2007 at 11:51 pm (Life; muse with me.)

Mika's music is <33Mika is the new age music of the year! Bought this for S$11.90. As you can see, it’s a Singapore edition. Trust me, I tried searching for a non-SG version in the other CD-racks. But to no avail.

It was an adventure today to gallivant around the stores today!

Bought plenty of stationery and files and whatnots. I can’t believe I bought myself a Chemistry Textbook. The one by EN Ramsden! Well, since there was a sale, I figured, why the heck not? :D And so I went to buy the textbook. It was 60 over dollars! But I will have to see if it’s worth the money because I haven’t perused through it yet. I will soon! :\

Bought plenty of Zig pens too! Three to be exact! And some Post-it pads which proved to come in handy during my Biology revision today! Pretty fortunate to have a few hours of studying just before dinner. Which usually is rare during Sundays. Took an hour’s nap and then went off to Toa Payoh for the 2nd round of spending. All in all I think we spent about a 100 bucks? Yeah.

So anyway, I’ll give you a full music review on Life in Cartoon Motion soon! Let me enjoy the tunes before I do so. :]

Alright, till then.

Prancing boys and giggling gentlemen

September 9, 2007 at 12:29 am (Life; muse with me.)

What so with the dainty little pixies that snigger at our routine? Away then, make haste and scurry away. We are to be feared, by the fearful.

I must say, the title amazes me at how my mind works so artistically at night. I have frankly no idea how it got there except an incident where XD was prancing around outside the Council Room today.

Ahh, faint memories of a longer sunshine where we used to enjoy our lunches. No longer will we taste the sweet scent of light rays but we will retreat only when the moon glow arrives. Alas! What have we done through this period of 6 months or so? Have we deprived ourselves to a total state of depravity?

I’m lost and confused. What is there to life?

Ah don’t mind the old gentleman, as I contemplate the fragments of life.

But what more to see? Than little pixies and their gay and merry footwork. Away then, make haste for past sunshine will we not see our paths.

“881″ – The 7th Month, in a new light.

September 8, 2007 at 1:52 am (Reviews)

881

I am frankly not a big fan of showy, glitzy and glamorous costumes with feathers poking out everywhere. But I must say I was utterly impressed with the way Royston Tan, filmmaker and director of this production, presented the whole getai scene in an astute manner, yet preserving the local flavour.

881 is a film that attempts to bring back the heyday of the getai scene in Singapore, where back in the 80s (and in the 90s), these were popular stage set-ups during the Chinese 7th month to “provide entertainment for the 兄弟’ “ that exit the gates of Hell during the 7th Month. Although they are still rampant in the modern-day Singapore, it has lost its authenticity and for old keepsakes’, the atmosphere of the old.

I am particularly impressed with a few characters.

  1. Aunt Ling (Liu Ling Ling); having amazed me in other major roles in other major movies such as I Not Stupid, and the occasional satirical 8.00pm slot comedy; she did not fail again with her witty potrayal of the common Hokkien jokes involving cocks (ie cockerels) amidst other sarcastic remarks.
  2. Guan Yin (Qi Yu Wu); for being the male version of a flower vase. (ref) Being mute, he cannot say a single word throughout the film. My Dad was telling me how lucky he was, to earn big bucks for not saying a word. Imagine how much he’ll be earning if he opens his mouth.
  3. Big Papaya (Yeo Yann Yann); for being the influenced elder half of the duo, smoking after going through a tough time of rejection by her mother. It takes an influential person to influence another, hence we shall introduce the last person that I’m impressed with.
  4. Small Papaya (Mindee Ong); for being the one that was so hawt! <3 She was definitely an adorable face to the movie. Apart from that, her character gets involved in a whole myriad of emotions which I shall not disclose. Tough for her to star in this role.

Overall, although I’m not very pleased with the nose-dripping and teary-eyed scenes of intense emotions – now please don’t get the wrong idea, I’m intensely emotional and sentimental – because they are utterly detestful; (with flu running out of your noses, what you want last to see is the flu slowly trickling down your nostrils. We’re fortunate we don’t get to see any nostril hairs.) I enjoyed this movie a lot and I would give this movie a 5 star rating. Worth a watch if you’re an ardent supporter of local movies.

Oh but one thing to note, don’t watch if you’re a big fan of May and Choy. I grew to hate them after this show, most unfortunately of course. Their spoken mandarin is horrid and they can’t hold a proper sentence. But kudos to them, they’ve tried. :)

Watch 881, tis the season to be singing.

Many trailers on the prowl and some of the movies worth watching are

  • Shoot ‘Em Up (Monica Belluci = <3)
  • Hairspray
  • The Golden Compass

Oh yeah, let me tell you more about the Golden Compass. The Golden Compass is not called the Golden Compass in the trailer! It is known as the Lithiometer or whatever it did sound like through the speakers. But I think the producers decided to dumb the movie name down to the Golden Compass, just to get the PG rating. -looks smug-

Enjoy your movies and popcorn y’all! And the remainder of your 7th month.
